ABOUT THE SILK ROAD
RESTAURANT.
The Silk Road Restaurant was opened in
November 2000 by Teresa Haskell who,
having managed a successful Turkish
restaurant in London for a number of years,
decided to return to Sussex and open one for
herself.
The old Silk Road provided the theme - an
ancient network of several thousand miles of
trading routes that criss-crossed a dozen
countries, bringing silk and spices to the
West and taking Christianity to the East. It's
this vast canvas that allows the Restaurant to
make use of a wide variety of cuisines and
types of entertainment, and still be within its
theme. The Restaurant is, therefore, Turkish
with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern
influences.
The Silk Road is blessed with a very small but
efficient staff including Steffi who runs the
bar, Harriet and Seb who help Teresa
'front-of-house' and Hayat, Henry and Joed
who work in the kitchen, led by Adem the
Head Chef who has recently been taken into
the business as a partner. Many of the team
have worked at the Restaurant since its
opening and are responsible for much of the
unique atmosphere, particularly at the
weekends when the Silk Road comes alive to
the sound of an Arabic drum beat or maybe a
Latin jazz rhythm.
The flamboyant interior decor is breathtaking
with Persian carpets, mosaics and rich red
velvets in abundance, scattered amongst
objets d'art and beautiful copper, brasswares,
tented ceilings and candles. The menu is
extensive and delicious and includes dishes
from chosen countries along the old Silk Road
as well as a few European favourites. Please

SILK ROAD MONTHLY CLASSES
SILK ROAD WRITERS GROUP - The Silk Road Writers have been
meeting at the Restaurant for more than three years. They meet on the
First Wednesday of EVERY Month at 7.00pm-10.00pm. They discuss all the
great masters various works as well as recite their own pieces. Both men
and women of all ages enjoy this class where the emphasis is on prose and
poetry. They have printed compilations of their writing and have also
recited at the Arundel Fringe Festival and the Littlehampton Arts Festival. If
you would like to write but don't know how to go about it, come to the
Restaurant on the First Wednesday and learn!
