SERITA - Our female belly dancer has been dancing at the Restaurant every
week since our opening party and is always accompanied by her lovely
husband, Brian.  Her style has improved over the years to such a degree that
she easily compares, and would even beat, the best Turkish or Arabic dancers
on the circuit.  She has been my most dedicated and loyal entertainer and
deserves to be top of my list.  Her most distinguishable quality is her flashing
smile - which she shares with men and women alike.  There are some
dancers, particularly in London, who perform almost to a pornographic level -
but not here!  I am so proud of the fact that Serita dances with class and
elegance and is a joy for all to watch.

Serita has acquired a vast knowledge of different Middle Eastern dances, from
Lebanon to Egypt, Turkey and Kuwait.  Each style is accompanied by its own
rhythms, instruments, costumes and movements.  Each one interesting and
beautiful to watch.  Serita is at her best when the Restaurant audience
participates in the fun.  She will often have a few customers joining her -
dancing with sparkly belts or shiny scarves wrapped around their waists or on
their heads.  It always results in lots of laughter and plenty of hand clapping.

A great night is always had by all whenever Serita is booked to entertain us!
DJ ANDY - ' I think the best way to describe the Silk Road is to say that
certainly, when I am working there, forget about your troubles and go on holiday
for the night!  Because that's what it feels like - the way the restaurant has been
fashioned lends itself to a concept that is so un-British, yet retains enough
familiarity to make one feel comfortable. An absolutely unique blend of social
ingredients that performs differently every weekend, yet always manages to
maintain a touch of class....... There is something about the place which
captures all that is dear to me. The clientele are exceptionally well behaved,
even the youngsters, and a bad night at the Silk Road is when nobody wants to
dance! I think that has happened about three times in the seven years I have
worked there!  There is, in my opinion, only one way to improve the restaurant,
and that would be to make it fifty times bigger! I could then play to maybe five
hundred people instead of fifty or sixty - the bigger the better, the more the
merrier.

Although saying that, from a professional point of view, even if only four people
turn up all night, then I will still give it everything I have! No matter what, I will
always try to tailor my music to suit the people who have paid to listen to me.
Because when it comes down to it, I verily believe that one thing is more
important to me than anything else in my working life.  EVERYBODY HAS THE
RIGHT TO BE ENTERTAINED.

As well as a love of music, I absolutely love making people laugh, and
generally helping them to have a good time. I look upon different songs in the
way that a mechanic looks at his spanners, each song a tool for a different job.
And there is always something for everyone.........so if you have booked a night
at the Silk Road for any occasion, or just a fun night out, please feel free to
email me at andrewjuby@hotmail.co.uk and I will make sure that I have the
music that you want on the night, together with any social requests.'
KEMAL KUSABBI QUINTET - Influenced by the late 70’s and early 80’s
London jazz funk and soul scene, Kemal Kusabbi was inspired by the music of
Grover Washington Junior and the likes of the Crusaders. Kemal has toured all
over the world playing Alto and soprano saxophone with a variety of  top acts
including the highly regarded South African band Sankomota and his own
band Double Vision which was signed to the prestigious Acid Jazz label.

Kemal now fronts a 5-piece funk ensemble called the Kemal Kusabbi
Collective with the finest of Brighton’s jazz musicians featuring Kemal himself
on soprano and alto saxophone and vocals. The band combines original
compositions with jazz, funk, Latin and soul grooves and has a wonderfully rich
sound and a unique feel, which includes numbers such as the Average White
Band's 'Pick up the Pieces' and Bill Withers' 'Just the two of Us'.

A night with Kemal is guaranteed to be nothing short of sensational so don't
forget to bring your dancing shoes and most importantly don't forget to book a
table as the restaurant is always guaranteed to be busy.
THE COOKIE JONES TRIO - A fabulous band in the Silk Road family of
entertainers.  These musicians have all played and worked with the World's
best (Blue Mink, Wham, Gloria Gaynor & Barbra Streisand, for starters).  Their
instruments include trumpet, fugal horn, bongos, congas, drums, keyboard,
bass & lots of percussions.  The atmosphere they manage to create is almost
one of a 'jamming' session - as if they are totally unaware that people are
listening - just a bunch of guys out to enjoy themselves!  The only time they
become aware that they are playing to an audience is when the music stops
and the applause takes over!

Their style is largely Latin influenced and their set always includes numbers
that allow each player to shine in solo, so that you can really appreciate the
skills of each artiste.  If you are a fan of Latin swing and really want to see
something unique for Littlehampton, then do not miss a visit  when Cookie
Jones is around.
LIMON Y SENTIMIENTO LATINO (LATIN FEELING) -  Limon creates
music that will appeal to everyone from salsa and latin dancers to jazz lovers.
Limon's original compositions and arrangements reflect his Cuban origins in
this danceable Latin jazz with it's hot and spicy flavours.   The quartet
comprises Limon on percussion/congas vocals, Dan Rehahn trombone/vocals,
Luke Rattenbury guitar and Andre Fry bass.  Expect to hear Salsa, Cuban
Latin Jazz, Son, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, Afro-Reggae and Afro-Latin.

This is a new band in the Silk Road profile and we have been warned to wear
comfortable shoes - so practice your salsa moves and book a table!
JOHN STAR, MAGICIAN - John is a great member to have in our portfolio
because his act is so different from anything else we have at the Restaurant.
He is not only a member of the Inner Circle, but Hollywood's Magic Castle as
well (America's highest accolade).  He now lives in Hollywood where he
performs nightly but travels to the UK around 3-4 times a year and he visits the
Silk Road each time he is here.  John has performed several times for us and I
have watched many of his favourite magic tricks a number of times.  There are
only a couple that I have managed to suss - the vast majority are still a total
mystery!  His repertoire includes an ever-changing selection of top quality
tricks, made famous by the great masters as well as newcomers to the business
- David Blane being a notable example.

John's style is to go from table to table, armed with his knowledge and his
black briefcase and, together with lots of jokes and banter and a great sense of
humour, he manages to create a complete evening's entertainment.
